Dallas Jackals Sign Kody O’Neil
Kody grew up in Troutdale, Oregon, a suburb East of Portland, where he started playing rugby his junior year of high school at Reynolds High School. He immediately fell in love with the game after his friends convinced him to give it a try. After high school, Kody went to Oregon State University where he played rugby all four years. Kody was then given the opportunity to play club rugby in New Zealand while completing his Master’s Degree.
After two months in New Zealand, Kody moved to Auckland, New Zealand where he played for the Ponsonby Rugby Club. While helping Ponsonby win a Championship, Kody also played for the Auckland Rugby Union Men’s 7s team. He was selected to join a traveling team to play in the Hokkaido 7s Tournament.
During Kody’s second season in New Zealand, he played for the High School Old Boys of Christchruch where he worked his way from the Division 2 team to the Division 1 team. After this season, Kody and his girlfriend decided to move back to Seattle, Washington.
While in Seattle, Kody played for the Seattle Saracens before being contacted by the Glendale Raptors to join the team during their inaugural MLR season. By a little chance and a lot of hard work, he was able to work his way into a starting position for much of the season and playoffs.
Kody’s family, parents, older sister, and long-time girlfriend, have always been extremely supportive of his rugby career. He says, “my parents have a Blue Heeler that looks like the Jackals logo, they are very excited about that!”
Kody is very excited to continue his career with the Dallas Jackals while helping accelerate the growth of rugby in DFW. He looks forward to helping bring an MLR Championship to Dallas! Welcome to the pack Kody!
