Former Fijian Warrior Josateki Degei Joins the Jackals
Josateki grew up in Sigatoka, Fiji, a town on the west side of the island. Sigatoka is often dubbed as “Rugby Town” because it’s home to Nadroga Rugby Union and has a great influence on the Fiji national rugby scene.
In 2016, Josateki joined two clubs, the Suva Stallions Rugby Club and Suva Rugby. Suva Stallions Rugby Club is part of the Escott Shield Premier league. Suva Rugby, which is a Provincial Club through Fiji Rugby, is the oldest and largest provisional union in Fiji. In 2018, Josateki won the PRC, Provincial Regional Championships, with Suva Rugby. He continued with the Stallions and Suva Rugby through 2019.
To continue his rugby career, Josateki joined Fiji Latui in 2020 which is part of the Global Rapid Rugby league and considered a National 15s side of Fiji. The Latui focus’ on fast paced, energetic and entertaining rugby while producing high quality rugby with top Fiji Rugby players.
Josateki also was selected to join the Fiji Warriors in 2020 who compete in the Pacific Rugby Club. The Warriors are a national representative only second to the Fiji national team.
Presently, Josateki competes for Namosi Rugby Club. He says, “Playing rugby was a dream that needed a lot of sacrifice, hard work, and commitment to be where I am today.” He continued to say that one reason he loves rugby is the bonds and friendships that are developed that last a lifetime.
Josetaki says he’s excited to be a Jackal to honor his family and all those that have been a part of his rugby journey. “And of course it’s a great chance to further my skills in rugby.” He is excited to move to Dallas to experience what life in Dallas is like. Josetaki continued, “hopefully one day I can bring my wife and son over to experience it with me.” Welcome to the pack Josetaki!
