Former Warrior Tim O’Malley Moves to Dallas
Originally from Otago, New Zealand, Tim started playing rugby at four years old for Maniototo Rugby Club. While in school, Tim played with the Heartland Rugby Club in North Otago. After completing high school, he played for the Boy of Plenty Academy for three years.
Tim then made the move to Marlborough, New Zealand, a seaside town of Picton. Once in Marlborough he joined Waitohi RFC as Rugby Development Officer. Tim also played on the division one side of Waitohi. He proved himself and started training with the high performance Tasman squad where he was later called up to the Southland squad.
A short time later, Tim advanced to the Tasman Makos squad, which is the provincial rugby union of Tasman Bay. He went on to play with the Makos in the 2016-2017 NPC Campaign. Currently, he is in his 5th season with the Makos.
Tim then moved to the US and competed with the Utah Warriors in the 2018 MLR season. After his inaugural MLR season, he was part of the Makos team that won the Mitre 10 Cup.
Continuing his rugby career, Tim joined the NEC Green Rockets for the 2020 season. The NEC Green Rockets are based in Japan and compete in the Top League.
Tim is excited to be a Jackal because he can be a part of the foundation of the franchise. “The coaches and management I have spoken to are excited to play an attractive brand of rugby,” Tim commented. “I’m ready for the challenge.”
Although Tim has never been to Dallas, he has heard great things about the city and enjoyed visiting Texas in 2018 during the MLR season. He and his partner Georgia are excited for the move. Welcome to the pack Tim!
