Dallas Jackals Announce Major League Rugby 2021 Inaugural Schedule
DALLAS, TX (December 8, 2020) — The Dallas Jackals today announced their 2021 Inaugural Season Major League Rugby schedule. The Jackals join the West Conference in a 16-game season with 8 home matches at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The Jackals Inaugural season will kick-off against fellow 2020 expansion team LA Giltinis in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 20. The season continues with the Jackals facing each of the West Conference teams twice and competing in inter-conference games with select East Conference teams. The 2021 season ends Saturday, July 17 followed by two weeks of playoffs with the Championship Final on August 1. The Championship Final will be nationally televised on CBS.
“There is huge anticipation and determination from all the players and staff to establish Dallas Jackals as a competitive force in the MLR while growing the game of rugby in Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Allen Clarke, Jackals Head Coach and Director of Rugby. “I know the boys can’t wait to come together to build and understand our identity as we prepare for our first game in LA. I have no doubt the excitement will only increase further with our first home game two weeks later against NOLA Gold.”
Named as an expansion team in June 2020, the Jackals join the Houston SaberCats and Austin Gilgronis as the third MLR team in Texas. The Jackals look to bring home the second Texas Cup, which was introduced prior to the 2020 season.
Jackals President Scott Sonju said, “Rugby is loved around the world and growing rapidly in the United States.” He continued, “We find that when people learn of the unique sportsmanship, traditions, and culture of rugby worldwide, it resonates with them. North Texans are going to fall in love with this sport.”
In advance of the regular season, Dallas Jackals training camp will begin on February 15.
