Jackals sign Prop Kelepi Fifita
Kelepi is originally from Phoenix, Arizona where he was a four-year varsity football player at Central High School. He achieved both First and Second Team All-State honors, was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and MVP, and a three-time All-Section Defensive and Offensive lineman.
Kelepi began playing rugby during high school in Tempe, Arizona for the Tempe Rugby Club when his uncle, who was a player-coach, asked if he’d like to give it a try. He says, “the thing I love about rugby is the bond you create with your teammates and even opponents you play against.”
After high school, Kelepi attended Northern Arizona University (NAU) to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Information Sciences and played football. After a redshirt Freshman year, he played for NAU through 2016.
In 2017, he began playing for the Glendale Merlins Rugby Club which led him to signing with the Glendale Raptors for the 2018 MLR season. The MLR experience gave him exposure and he was selected to play for the USA Selects in the 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge. Kelepi resigned to play for the Raptors for the 2019 and 2020 season.
Kelepi is excited to be on a new team in the league because “it will push me even more since we have more to prove.” He is also excited to create new bonds with new teammates. The move to Texas for Kelepi means getting to see family that he hasn’t gotten to see in awhile. He says, “it will be good to have them come to games and see them afterwards.” Welcome to the pack Kelepi!
