Local Dallas Harlequins Matt Frings Returns as Development Player
Jackals Development Players are key to building rugby domestically. Following the same training schedule as Jackals players and placement with local clubs to gain game experience, the Developmental Players will have the opportunity to improve to MLR level of play as part of our high performance pathway.
The Dallas Jackals are happy to announce that Matt Frings is returning as Development Player! Frings is Dallas Harlequins RFC hooker and Strength and Conditioning Coach and looks forward to continuing his career with the Jackals.
Frings began playing rugby at 9 years old in his hometown of Nottingham, England for Nottingham RFC. Matt says, “this club blended the values of rugby with a performance focus which had a big impact on me growing up.”
Frings represented his county playing for Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire & Derbyshire RFU at the U18 and U20 level. He went on to be selected for the England North U20 side.
After high school Frings moved to Brisbane, Australia to play at the University of Queensland. This opportunity offered him the chance to experience a completely different style of rugby than he was accustomed to in the rain in the East midlands.
Following this, Frings played for the Preston Grasshoppers, a club founded more than 150 years ago and competing in the National League 2 North. He played for the Grasshoppers until making the move to the US.
Once in the US, Frings joined the Dallas Harlequins as a player and Strength & Conditioning Coach. While providing unmeasurable support to the players, Matt captained the D1 side for the 2020 season.
Asked about the opportunity to join the Jackals Development Program, “I’m excited to be involved in the dynamic expansive style of play the team is looking to develop. Training is going to be challenging and is going to force me to continue to improve. I am looking forward to ripping in fighting for my place in the team.”
He continued, “I am looking forward to seeing the rugby community get behind the Jackals – professional rugby has been a long time coming and everyone is excited for opening day.”
Elaine Vassie, Jackals GM, said, “Great to be able to welcome Matt back as a development player as we head into the 2022 season. Now with more time at hooker under his belt, we are excited to see his transition continue to progress as he commences work with us.”
Welcome back to the Pack Matt!
