Ratu Peni Tagive
Peni was born and raised in Cambelltown, New South Wales and began playing rugby league and union at 7 years old. He competed for the East Cambelltown Eagles as well as in the S.G. Ball and Jersey Flegg for Western Suburbs MagPies.
Peni went on to be selected to represent Australia by the Australian Schoolboy on the Wests Tigers. In 2009, Peni signed with the St. George Illawarra Dragons. In the first trail game, an injury put Peni on the sidelines for the rest of the season. In 2011, he joined the Sydney Roosters. Peni ended the 2012 season playing for the feeder team Newtown Jets, winning the NSW Cup championship, after a hamstring injury.
Wanting to focus on his studies, Peni moved to the US and attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He played American football as a running back for the Baylor Bears. In 2015, he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology.
Peni then moved back to Australia and rejoined the Wests before being named to the Canberra Viking. In 2016, Peni moved to Scotland after signing with the Glasgow Warriors for one season.
Peni returned to Texas and played for the Austin Huns in 2017 before being part of Tiger Rugby’s Hong Kong 10s squad. In 2018, he was selected for the USA Rugby Eagles training squad for 7s and 15s. Peni played for Old Blue RC in New York winning the Elite Cup XVs Championship.
In 2019, Peni joined the Austin Gilgronis, then Austin Herd, who he competed with in the 2019 and 2020 MLR season. “I can’t wait to get to work and learn from my new coaching staff, teammates, and everyone associated with the organization.”
