Robbie was born and raised in Vredefort, South Africa. He attended high school at Die Afrikaanse Hoerskool in Kroonstad before being selected to play for Northern Free State Griffons at the U16 Grant Khomo Week in 2012. Next he was chosen to play for the Griquas in the annual Craven Week team in 2016.
In 2015, Robbie joined the Western Province U19 side. Robbie returned to the Griffons and represented them in the 2016 U20 Provisional Championship where he scored 111 points, third most in the competition. In 2016, he also attended University of Free State playing for the U20 young Guns.
In the first half of the 2017 season, Robbie continued with the Griffons playing in the 2017 Rugby Challenge. Robbie then joined the Free State Cheetahs and made his Currie Cup debut. After a few team injuries, Robbie was called up to the Cheetah’s Pro14 side. Robbie went on to make three more starts in the Currie Cup competition.
In 2018, Robbie moved to George, South Africa and represented the SWD Eagles. He then signed with the Colorado Raptors for the 2019 MLR season. In 2019, he also returned to represent the Griffons who were Currie Cup runner-ups. He returned to the Colorado Raptors for the 2020 season.
Robbie is excited to be a Jackal, “It doesn’t happen often to be a part of a team being established new and fresh in a league. I want us to get out there and build our brand of rugby and playing style.” He continued, “plus, I still hold the MLR’s record for the most individual points in a game so I look forward to getting the chance to defend that.”
