Herman Agenbag Joins in Trade with New England
The Dallas Jackals are pleased to announce South African prop Herman Agenbag is joining the Jackals on trade with the New England Free Jacks through the 2024 Major League Rugby season for a 2023 international player spot.
The 22-year-old grew up in Bloamfontain Free State, South Africa. Agenbag is from Bloemfontein, South Africa and played rugby at Grey College and was a South African junior athlete in track and field with the discus and shot put.
In 2018, Herman also played rugby for the Free State Cheetahs U18s, the South African Schools, and the South African U18s. Agenbag competed with the Golden Lions U19s, playing one match in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge, and the following year with the Golden Lions U21s, where the team finished in second place in the South African U21 Rugby Championship.
He played for University of Johannesburg in the 2020 and 2021 FNB Varsity Cup while pursuing an Advanced Certificate of General Management. In 2020, Agenbag played for AMD Valke Falcons for one match in the Currie Cup First Division against Eastern Province.
Jackals GM said, “Pleased to have worked with Tom Kindley at Free Jacks to create an opportunity for Herman to transfer to the Jackals. Having had an impressive age grade career at tighthead in South Africa, Herman takes pride in the set piece which is complimented by his skill set and understanding of the broader game. We are very much looking forward to supporting his continued development as he looks to become a regular feature in the league.”
Agenbag has a Jack Russell named Milo and enjoys building stuff, playing video games, and outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and hunting. He looks forward to experiencing the rodeo, culture, and the way of life in DFW. He hopes to learn a few things he can carry with him in future endeavors.
“I’m excited to show the world what I can do and what I can bring to the game,” said Agenbag. “The Jackals will give me that chance.”
