MLR Collegiate Draft Broadcast Details Released
DALLAS (August 17, 2021) – Fans around the world will be able to watch Major League Rugby’s (MLR) second-ever Collegiate Draft on Thursday, August 19, 2021. For viewers in the United States, the first hour of the draft will be broadcast on FS2 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Following the first hour, coverage will switch to The Rugby Network. For viewers outside of the United States, the entire draft will be streamed on The Rugby Network beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Dan Power and Dani Wexelman will return as hosts of the draft and will be joined by Stacy Paetz, sideline reporter for MLR and host of MLR All Access. The draft order was determined by the reverse order of the league standings but is subject to change as teams make trades.
“We are excited to host our second collegiate draft and see a new influx of talent come into Major League Rugby from the United States and Canada,” said George Killebrew, MLR Commissioner. “We want to continue supporting the college rugby landscape as well as provide a pathway for US and Canadian collegiate players. Our sport has gained a lot of momentum, completing an amazing season with playoff spots coming down to the final weeks of regular season play. Every league strives for parity, and we feel this year’s draft will provide quality players to teams throughout the league.”
The draft will begin with the expansion Dallas Jackals making the first pick, followed by the Houston SaberCats, Seattle Seawolves, Toronto Arrows, San Diego Legion, Rugby United New York (via Old Glory DC), Austin Gilgronis, New England Free Jacks, NOLA Gold, Rugby United New York, Utah Warriors, Rugby ATL, and the 2021 MLR champion Los Angeles Giltinis.
