Dallas Jackals Rugby are excited to announce the American College Rugby (ACR) D1-AA Championship will be held at Choctaw Stadium on April 30th as a “curtain raiser” to the Jackals versus San Diego Legion match. The D2 and D3 Semi-finals and Championship matches will be held locally at Prairie Park, home of the Grand Prairie Mavericks Rugby.
The D1-AA Championship will be held Saturday, April 30th at 4:00pm CT followed by the 7:00pm CT Jackals match. Purchased admission for the Jackals match allows joint access to the curtain raiser. Gates will open at 3:30pm.
During the April 30th “College Night” Jackals match, a college Recruiting Fair will occur on the concourse with representatives from various local and out-of-town colleges. All three Championship winning sides will be spotlighted at halftime on the pitch as well.
“We are excited to be hosting the ACR D1-AA Championship at Choctaw Stadium,” said Dallas Jackals President Scott Sonju. “College rugby is on the rise as shown by the success of the annual Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft and the impact these athletes have had in the league. Continuing to spotlight these athletes and provide unique experiences is an important part of encouraging participation and the growth of rugby in the US.”
The schedule of the D2 & D3 Semi-Finals and Championship Matches held in Grand Prairie will be announced in the coming weeks.
Discounted tickets are available for ACR athletes and families and those attending the Recruiting Fair.
“ACR is excited to partner with the Dallas Jackals and Major League Rugby’s player development programs to present the 2022 D1 College Club National Championship,” said ACR Chairman Rich Cortez. “ACR focuses on player and coach centered initiatives to grow the game by exploring advances in recruitment, retention and opportunities for our members to enjoy, compete, and excel while providing pathways to high performance and life long affiliation with our great sport. We thank the MLR for its support of our championship event and the college recruitment endeavor.”
ACR consists of 66 schools including 17 located in Texas competing in the Lonestar Conference. Along with competing in XV and Sevens competition, ACR focuses on coach, referee and player development in collaboration with USA Rugby Training & Education, along with robust All-Star Competitions to annually work closely with USA Rugby High Performance Pathways.
