Dallas Jackals Win Opening Match with Thrilling Comeback, Secure Bonus Point
Hooker Dewald Kotze scored a hat-trick and fly half Martin Elias kicked a last minute drop goal to complete the Dallas Jackals 32-29 comeback victory Sunday night after being down by 16 points before half.
The league’s newest members, RFCLA, got off to a scorching start in MLR, scoring four tries before the halftime whistle blew on opening weekend. The highlight of which was a stunning sideline to sideline kick on the run from center Jason Emery to Olympian Andrew Coe, who plucked it out of mid air for the try.
Things went from bad to worse for the Jackals when they lost scrum half Pedro Imhoff to injury in the 35th minute already down by 16. However, the Jackals weathered the storm, and struck hard during opponent penalty minutes with a heavy commitment to drive and maul moves.
Discipline proved the deciding factor between these two high octane sides. RFCLA racked up four yellow cards during the contest, all in the waning minutes of the half and final whistles and resulting in 22 points for the Jackals, including the game-winning drop goal by Elias.
The Dallas Jackals are back in action on Sunday, March 10, when they take on the San Diego Legion in their Home Opener at Choctaw Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central and the match will be televised by The Rugby Network. Get your tickets today!
