Wisconsin Native Daryl Bagley Joins as Development Player
The Dallas Jackals are happy to announce Number 8 Daryl Bagley is joining as a Development Player for the 2022 season.
Bagley, 23, began his rugby career with Grafton RFC while in high school. He went on to represent Team Wisconsin in the Rocky Mountain Challenge where he captained his side.
Following his completion of high school, Bagley playing began playing with his home town men’s club, Milwaukee Barbarians D1 squad. Next he attended and played at American International College (AIC) on both the 15s and 7s teams where he aided the clubs to many 7s Conference Championships and was Head Captain his junior and senior years. Bagley was also voted to FloRugby’s Top 25 Freshman of the Fall for the 2017/2018 season.
Also in 2017, Bagley was selected to play for the USA Men’s Junior All-American side during the summer qualification rounds against Canada U20s. He went on to compete with Northeast Academy at the NY7s tournament.
From 2018-2020, Bagely joined the Austin Huns summer 7s Academy squad before joining the New England Free Jacks Academy in an 2021 exhibition game versus Rugby United New York Academy.
Also earlier this year he was selected to join the Wisconsin Selects in both summer 7s and 15s matches before rejoining the Northeast Academy at NY7s once more.
From a suburb just outside of Milwaukee, WI, Bagley is very close to his family with siblings ranging from 30 to 10 years old. When asked about the opportunity presented with the Jackals, Bagley said, “For me, this opportunity means the world to me. Growing up, I lacked confidence but I found rugby by accident and that all went away. I knew that rugby was going to be a part of my life forever.”
“To sign my first contract, take that first step in bettering myself for the sport that has been my life for the past 10 years, it’s a dream come true. A lot of people struggle to realize their dreams, so for me, it’s a way to show people that whatever you’re doing in life, just take every opportunity that presents itself. You never know when you’ll discover the thing that’s going to ignite a fire within you.”
GM Elaine Vassie said, “As a multi-sport college athlete Daryl’s dynamic on the field with a real ability to stay alive in contact. Passionate about rugby culture, values and the impact that family feeling can have beyond the field, I’m really excited to welcome him to Dallas and confident he’ll have a positive impact as we head into 2022.”
