The Dallas Jackals Have Re-Signed, Hooker, Dewald Kotze
ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Jackals have re-signed Dewald Kotze, hooker, for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 6‘0” 230-pound Canadian National has been with the Jackals since their 2022 inaugural season, starting in 13 games with 3 tries over two seasons. Kotze contributed off the bench to the Jackals’ first franchise win last season against the Toronto Arrows.
Born in South Africa, Kotze moved to Canada at age 14 where he played for Alberta Rugby. He then joined Prairie Wolf Pack and worked his way into the U19 squad, which represents three provinces in the Canadian National Championship. Kotze soon joined the Wolf Pack’s men’s team and later competed for Gold RFC, an elite men’s side.
Kotze, 26, also represented Canada at the 2017 World Rugby U20 Trophy in Montevideo, Uruguay after beating the USA in North American qualifiers.
In 2019, Kotze joined the Pacific Pride, the Canadian National team development program, where he trained until signing with the Jackals in Nov of 2021. Kotze went on to be selected as part of the 40-man extended squad for the men’s national team in June 2021.
Kotze said, “I think we made massive improvements as a young team last season, and I’m excited to be back and building on that momentum for this upcoming season.”
